A Creative With Many Hats
Say hello to Interior Designer Laura Ruddy. A creative with many hats, Laura pursued her passion for interior design when she was 25. After completing the Professional Interior Design Diploma with the National Design Academy, Laura has since opened her own online luxury furniture store with added interior design services.
What made you want to get into Interior Design?
I have always had a passion for interiors. I have moved homes quite a few times, and I have always thoroughly enjoyed redesigning them. I first started my passion for interior design when I was 25.
Who is your biggest design inspiration?
My biggest design inspiration is Sally O’Connor. I love her style and her design projects are amazing.
How would you describe your style in 3 words?
If I had to use three words to describe my style, they would be “minimalist, contemporary, and art deco.”
What was your favourite unit/module of the course?
My favourite unit from the course was Unit 4: Plans and Space Planning in a Professional Context.
How did you find studying the course?
With the course being online, it was really convenient, as I could fit the course around my children and family life.
Who was your tutor and how did you find the communication and support?
My tutor was Simone Hayley. The support was wonderful, and she was always super helpful.
Now that you have finished your course, what are you doing next?
Last year, I set up my own online furniture shop and this year I have started an interior design service in and around Norfolk.
What would be your dream project?
My dream project would be to design a restaurant or bar area.
What projects are you most proud of?
Project 1: Home Bar
This was fun to design, making the space multi-use and stylish.
Project 2: Wine Storage Unit
I designed the wine storage unit and shelving around an existing sideboard that my client had. I have also incorporated hidden storage!
