Part 3 of our showcase of the wonderful work submitted for the NDA National Design Award in conjunction with Dulux, featuring their Colour of the Year, Tranquil Dawn.

For those not in the know, in Autumn 2019 the National Design Academy teamed up with Dulux to launch the 2020 Colour of the Year. Tranquil Dawn is said to represent in a step change in how we live and perceive our home. The calm and natural essence of the colour is said to be inspired by the morning sky and four palettes were created by the Dulux creative team to help budding interior designers incorporate the shade into their home.

The brief asked student interior designs to ‘WOW’ the judges with the Colour of the Year in either a commercial or residential setting. Both briefs included both an indoor and outdoor space which required the designers to really think about the planning stages; how to use the space, how to manage traffic flow and which materials would work best for each space.

The only real rule was:

“Whichever scheme you chose, at least 50% of your surfaces must have used the Dulux Colour of the Year 2020.”

So, What do you think? We’ve already showcased the work of 20 other finalists in no particular order. You can view the first 10 here and see the following 10 here.

The work of the final 10 finalists will be released on Wednesday 29th January. The same day that Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director of Dulux and the first National Design Academy tutor, joins NDA Director of Studies Anthony in the unenviable task of choosing 4 winners. They will be choosing 2 students from the Residential category and 2 from the Commercial who truly understood the brief, made the most of the space given and most importantly, who used the Dulux Colour of the Year to their best advantage.

We don’t know about you but we can’t wait!

The winning designers will be announced on Saturday 1st February 2020 at 12pm GMT. Keep your eyes peeled!
