At the NDA, we’re all very excited to announce that our Charity of the Year for 2014 is Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund. http://www.pcrf.org.uk/
A selection of charities were put forward and a companywide voting system implemented. The votes were eagerly counted and Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund (PCRF) was the undisputed winner, an unquestionably worthy cause.
About Pancreatic Cancer
In recent years Pancreatic Cancer has gained an increasing level of publicity, sadly due to prominent figures in our society being diagnosed with this atrocious disease. From worldwide music stars such as Pavarotti, leading actor and heart-throb; Patrick Swayze, CEO of Apple; Steve Jobs and most recently “Only Fools and Horses” actor Roger Lloyd-Pack.
This disease does not discriminate, no matter how famous, well loved, rich or privileged a person, Pancreatic Cancer can strike at any time. This disease is presently almost impossible to diagnose, there is no known cure or successful treatment and the outlook once diagnosed is pretty dire. In fact only 3% of people survive 5 years or more once diagnosed and the most common outlook is 6 months.
This survival rate has remained the same for the past 40 years, a heart-breaking realisation for those diagnosed with the disease as well as for the family members left behind.
How PCRF can help
Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund charity was set up to try and improve these devastating survival rates by funding innovative scientific research into both treatment and early diagnosis. This charity strives to limit the number of families affected by this disease by raising as much money as possible to help fund the various different research projects.
To date, these research projects have made great advancements into understanding the disease and taking a step closer to improving survival rates. However, much more funding is required to make a substantial impact.
What will the NDA do?
As a company, we are all passionate about fundraising and aim to raise as much money and awareness as possible throughout the year for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund. We have already raised nearly £100 from charity bake sales and a very amusing ‘Red Clothes Day’. We intend to undertake many different charitable activities throughout the year so watch this space!
If you would like to get involved and help us in our quest to raise as much money as possible for this extremely worthy cause then please do not hesitate to get in touch: ar@nda.ac.uk we would love to hear your ideas!
