Below we hear from Rachel Davies, a past NDA student who has gone on to enjoy a very successful and profitable career following the completion of her BA (Hons) in Interior Design.
“I have always been interested in Interior Design, but once I finished sixth form personal circumstances meant I could not do a University degree, so I went straight into work at an estate agents. After a year, I found a job as an Administrator at a local architect’s office specialising in listed building and conservation areas, and my passion for Interior Design quickly returned. After 6 months of working there I did some research, found the course through the NDA and it seemed like the perfect option for me. It provided good support, excellent finance options, fair fees and allowed me to continue to work full time so I could support myself throughout the course. This has meant I have obtained a BA (Hons) in Interior Design with no loans or debt, which would have been impossible if I had gone to University the conventional way.
The course took 3 years and I stayed at the architects, which really complimented each other. The course taught me skills and knowledge about Interior Design, whilst the job gave me invaluable experience in overseeing projects from design concept to completion, and working with the local council, contractors, decorators etc, which will come in useful as an Interior Designer.
I have been saving since I was 15 and at 24, after completing my degree, I decided to open my own shop in Shrewsbury: No 12 Interiors. I sell homeware accessories and furniture from the shop and online, and offer an Interior Design service. I wouldn’t have the skills, confidence or knowledge to have done this without the NDA.”

About Rachel’s Course
The BA (Hons) degree in Interior Design is one of the most popular qualifications from our selection of design courses. The degree course allows students a platform to build on the skills learnt at Diploma or A Level and combine this with their love for interior design. The core topics covered in this course include; Research and Contextualisation, Spatial Planning, Design in Historical Context, Creative Lighting and Technology, Sustainability, Show Home and Home Staging Design, Professional Practice and Furniture and Furnishings. In the final year, students will also have the opportunity to study either Hotel Design or Exhibition Design followed by a research project and culminating in an extensive independent study which can form the basis of any future portfolio.
The BA (Hons) in Interior Design degree will allow students a base to progress on to the MA in Interior Design, which is also offered here at the National Design Academy.
