Atelier at the KSA Index Convention

Below we hear from Helen Keighley (Director or Quality and Business at the NDA) who recently visited the Index Convention in Saudi Arabia. She took some time out from working on the exceptionally popular National Design Academy stand to take a look at some of the other wonderfully inspirational design companies.

“One of the delightful factors about attending interior design exhibitions is the vast range of different products on display. Although Index KSA is a much smaller event than Index Dubai, there were some interesting stands from a variety of countries.

As designers, designing for projects all over the world, it is necessary to be aware of specialist materials and products and the opportunities they bring for the creation of distinctive design schemes. For example; Atelier Alain Ellouz, a French company visiting Index KSA for the first time, use alabaster to produce interior decorative features such as bars, reception desks, tables or decorative panels for any room. One of the advantages of alabaster is its translucent qualities that allow it to be backlit, often producing quite spectacular effects. A washbasin or a chair are not normally illuminated objects but can look quite stunning illuminated from within. Alabaster is a very old stone dating back to the Egyptians but Atelier give it the high technology treatment and make it a material to consider for high end residential or commercial projects. With a client list including Chanel, Louis Vuitton, the Saudi Arabian Royal Family and Philippe Starck, they present an impressive portfolio that may provide an exclusive solution for your project.”
