What You’ll Need:
  • Ribbon (any kind, but wired ribbon is the easiest to shape)
  • Scissors
  • Your fingers (yes, really!)
Step-by-Step Guide

Follow our easy steps below and, if you’re a visual learner, watch our video tutorial here to master the process.

Step 1: Create the Loops

Start by winding the ribbon around your middle and index fingers. For a fuller bow, create three loops over your middle finger and two over your index finger.

Step 1: Create the Loops

Step 2: Position the Ribbon

Flip your hand over so that your palm is facing upwards, keeping the loops intact.

Step 2: Position the Ribbon

Step 3: Tuck the Ribbon

Take the excess ribbon and tuck it through the centre of the loops, between your middle and index fingers.

Step 3: Tuck the Ribbon

Step 4: Form the Bow
Bring the ribbon up and over, toward you, still with your palm facing up. This will form the base of your bow.

Step 4: Form the Bow

Step 5: Secure the Bow
Take the excess ribbon and tuck it under the loop you formed in Step 3. This helps tighten the bow.

Step 5: Secure the Bow

Step 6: Tighten and Finish
Carefully tighten the bow, then gently lift your fingers out. Trim the ends of the ribbon to create a pointed triangle shape, which is classic for Christmas bows.

Step 6: Tighten and Finish
Tips & Tricks:
  • You can opt to experiment with different types of ribbons, such as satin, velvet, or even burlap, for a different texture and finish.
  • Wired ribbon holds its shape better, but non-wired ribbon works just as beautifully for a softer, more natural look.

Christmas bows are simple to make and can be used in countless ways around your home. From trees and wreaths to gift wrapping and table settings, these easy bows will make your décor stand out this festive season!
