Student of the Month – Yvonne Arnott

Yvonne Arnott has been chosen as December’s student of the month for her Creative Lighting (module 4) on the FdA Interior Design course.

About Yvonne’s Course

The Foundation of Arts degree in Interior Design is accredited by Staffordshire University and is one of our most popular qualifications at the National Design Academy.

This FdA is perfect for those students that have a great love of design and are serious about becoming an interior designer. This qualification offers students a platform to build upon their skills and qualifications and progress on to the final year BA (Hons) Interior Design Top-Up course.

The main course units that are covered in this degree include Research & Contextualisation, Space Planning, Design in a Historical Context, Creative Lighting along with a selection of other topics.

What Yvonne’s Tutor Says…

“Yvonne has been chosen as our ‘Student of the Month’ for December based on her submission for the Creative Lighting module and in particular, for the development sketches presented.  Producing development sketches can be a daunting task to many but what Yvonne demonstrates here, is an awareness of space, understanding of the brief and how her design scheme can be enhanced through thorough planning and application of selected features.

In order to get the best out of her lighting and AV scheme, Yvonne has not only looked into the atmosphere she wants to create, but how this will be achievable using the existing building features to make the lighting and AV much more practical and reflective of the client’s needs.  Schematic plans are also a great way to split up the interior spaces to understand how lighting will work in the space, its spread and cones of light produced; schematics don’t just need to be used in order to split up rooms of a space, they can be used effectively to highlight certain design elements.

Yvonne’s sketches showcase fluidity, creative awareness and clear development of intention; something which can be hindered if done on the computer.  Well done once again Yvonne!”
