Feng Shui your design

On 10th November 2014, our UAE-based partners; APID, organised a highly successful and insightful Feng Shui design event. This wonderfully engaging seminar was hosted by Purity Showroom, based in Dubai.

Our Development Manager; Rola Al-Zobai, talks us through the highlights of the event.

“The key speaker at the event was Jin Peh. He has a fascinating background having originally studied medicine, before finding his true passion in life; Feng Shui. Jin Peh’s first experience with the power of Feng Shui was when he moved into a new home and noticed that each family member was feeling some form of difficulty with the house. After much consideration, Jin Peh discovered that there was a direct relationship between the space and the flow of energy in the house, which could possibly be effecting the mood and attitude of his family.

Feng Shui is an ancient art that was developed in China around 3000 years ago. The Feng part refers to wind and the Shui to water. In its simplest form Feng Shui is the practice of balancing the energy that is present in a certain space to ensure future happiness and peacefulness for those inhabiting that particular area. This ancient art form analyses the complex relationship between many different natural elements.

Feng Shui has a few simple guidelines to follow to ensure equilibrium in the home.

  • Avoid a view of the back garden from the front door
  • Avoid placing a staircase near to the front door
  • Avoid the use of mirrors near the front door and opposite the bed in the bedroom
  • Avoid placing the sink and the oven opposite each other

The seminar ended with an open discussion on the use and practical application of Feng Shui in the home. Whether or not you personally believe in the power of Feng Shui, as interior designers it is important to keep the relationship between space and user at the forefront of all designs.

As always, it was a pleasure to meet some of our Dubai-based students at the event and a wonderful opportunity to interact with other interior design experts and enthusiasts.”
